MILAN — Village board members have given staff the OK to begin working with Keystone, a company that plans to look into ways to use solar energy at Milan’s water and sewer plant. The result could be savings of up to 20 percent in energy bills per year.

“I felt very positive with our phone call today,” treasurer Mark Hunt told the board Monday, explaining that he had talked with the company about more details and numbers concerning the potential project.

“Basically, they showed us the proof that they are cheaper than MidAmerican by around 20 percent. I feel like they’ve done a good job and have been transparent about what they can do.”

The approval was for a letter of intent, which means no money is being exchanged or guaranteed. Milan is simply stating that it plans to seriously consider plans from Keystone.

Milan is also working with Bluestem, another renewable energy company, on a broader scale for various ways to use renewable energy throughout the village. That agreement covers the rest of the town other than the water and sewer plant that Keystone will work with.

  • Discussed the cost of a new water heater pump at the Milan spraygrounds totaling $6,116.
  • Approved the semi-monthly and miscellaneous bills totaling $70,440.33.
